After a small pause, Microsoft is opening up Office 2010 Web Apps beta-testing for an additional bunch of IT-savvy people, in hopes of making Office Web Apps one of the best web application services and outranking its rivals.
Nick Simons, the Program Manager for Office Web Apps has commented:
About a month ago I wrote about the Technical Preview on Windows Live. Since then we've seen a lot of interest in Office Web Apps and received numerous requests from people wanting to try them out. To make this possible, we are opening up the Technical Preview and inviting more people to try out the Office Web Apps.
Microsoft is marching towards its next landmark, which is expected to be a milestone in the history of Web applications. Office 2010 Web Apps, which is expected to come out by mid 2010, not too far from now, is still in its initial development phase and the whole team which has been working on improving the functionality of the application believes that there will be a great deal of improvement before the final product is officially launched. This is a long awaited move from Microsoft to compete with its fellow competitors Google Docs & Spreadsheets and Zoho in the area of web application services. However, as for now the functionality of Office Web Apps is not even near to that of its other technical rivals, in spite of having an innovative edge. But the team believes that there is a long way to go and Office 2010 would do far better compared to its current performance once it hits the markets.
The major strengths of Office Web Apps are believed to be its stability and innovativeness. The innovative ideas such as the SmartArt diagrams which are a part of Microsoft Office 2010 have been included in the Web Apps, too.Though significant amount of testing has been performed on this web application, Microsoft still isn’t completely satisfied.
Microsoft is interested in testing out these web based components with the help of a limited number of testers. The Technical Preview of the Office Web Apps was launched by Microsoft in the middle of September 2009 and from then on the software giant has been receiving a number of requests from people all over the world to get a trial of the buzz creator.
Eventually, they have decided to open out the Technical Preview thereby inviting more people to try out all the applications of Office Web Apps. You can entroll for a beta tester account by visiting http://skydrive.live.com/acceptpreview.aspx/.documents?aobrp=browse. But bear in mind that you have to act fast as Microsoft will accept only a limited amount of testers and odds are that there’s going to be a lot of interest toward this privilege!

Thanks for the info guys! I’m successfully enrolled as the newest Beta Tester
